Chung Yeung Fire

Chung Yeung is a day to remember ancestors. Families attend to the graves of their ancestors and pay their respects, often by burning paper offerings. Despite the red fire warning some people do not take care and start hill fires. This was taken from Wetlands Park.

Bum scratching

Bum scratching, originally uploaded by Octopuscard.

These two girls had just taken a photograph and were looking at the camera, when lo and behold, the girl on the left decides to scratch her bum - something I thought was reserved for men to do!

Kids playing in the fountain at Hong Kong Park. I used a longer exposure to blur the movement of the water, and the kids always make good subjects.

Conservatory roof

Conservatory roof, originally uploaded by Octopuscard.

This shot is taken whilst looking up from the dry plant room in the conservatory at Hong Kong Park. I really like the detail in this photo and the monochrome tones, although it is a colour photograph.

Flamingoes

Flamingoes, originally uploaded by Octopuscard.

Hah! If you were expecting a photo from the fleshpots of Pattaya, you will just have to wait a few days. As I have been busy doing other things, than taking photos.
This photo was taken at Hong Kong Zoo. I was quite pleased wih this photo beccause it was taken through the wire of a cage; but, by shortening the depth of field I have managed to make them disappear. It wasn't a particularly long lens either.

I took this picture in the botanical garden's greenhouse the other day; wonderful colours, and I like the drops of moisture.

I've got a new toy

Yes, that's right I have splashed out on a new piece of glass. A very expensive piece of glass, but I think it is wirth it - it's absoluely amazing! I am just uploading some pictures at the moment, so you will have to wait until you see what it can do.

This is it...

In the mean time this is another photeo I took today - not with the new lens. I had planned to go over to Nai Lin Garden, but forgot to put my octopuscard in my pocket so I was stuck on the Island. This was taken in the Taichi garden in Hong Kong Park, although its a little grey, I do like the repetitions and patterns in it. If any of you grew up in the UK and used to watch Playschool, it might strike a chord with you.

Back in Hong Kong

I am pleased to be back in Hong Kong. Although I took my camera to Jakarta, I was too busy and too uninspired to take any photos. So too celebrate my return I have posted a photo from one of my favourite spots in Hong Kong, the Nan Lian Garden.

Hong Kong Park

Hong Kong Park usually offers some good oportunities for photographs. I went there on Saturday, and I wasn't disappointed.

Here, in Hong Kong, it is common to take the wedding photos a couple of weeks before the wedding; that way they can be ready for blow ups to be on display at the reception. I caught this couple near the waterfall. It was a long shot, taken with a telephoto lens.

There's usually some photo shoot going on in Hong Kong Park. Here Little Bo Peep is having a touch of make up for her photograph. Again the telephoto lens allowed me capture her at some distance.
